SOLPOLL HEREFORDS |

|
‘Ultimate’ was given this name as even from an early age he always looked to have exceptional potential. ‘Ultimate’ was selected by the MLC Young Bull Promotion Scheme in 2003 based on the fact that he not only looked the part but had the BLUP figures to back this up, this was the first time in over fifteen years a Hereford had been selected for the scheme. ‘Ultimate’ has not only left his mark in the Solpoll herd as he has been used throughout Great Britain and Ireland, in turn we have received positive reports and several repeat customers for ‘Ultimate’ Semen. The sales of the semen were no doubt aided by the dominance of ‘Ultimate’ progeny in the show ring in 2005. However there is now only a limited supply of ‘Ultimate’ semen left as a result of the high demand. We are still using him via AI.

‘Vindicator’ was selected in the autumn of 2004 to succeed ‘Ultimate’ as our leading herd sire. The bull was selected on a visit to David Carroll’s Udel herd were he was running with his cows whilst Udel 1 Veteran, twice Irish National Champion, was shown. The strength of Vindicator’s dam was also a considerable factor in ensuring he made the journey north to the Solpoll herd. His sire Doonbiddie Hustler has been used worldwide and extensively throughout the British Isles. A leading English breeder commented on ’Vindicator’ as “the best bull I’ve seen to meet the demands of the breed today”. His calves have always shown great potential and his 2006 crop of spring born calves were one the best groups we have had . His first bull calf born was sold in January 2007 and made a N.I. Record Price which helped to secure the award of Sire of The Year 2006/07 which he won again for 2007/08. He also has excellent figures. Three sons have been used in the herd with his best son ‘Dynamite’ our current herd sire. |

COSTHORPE 1 GRANITE |
|
‘Granite’ had been spotted on his first show outing when he stood Junior & Reserve Supreme Champion at the 1991 Shropshire & West Midlands Show but he was not for sale, he was eventually purchased in 1993 after winning the UK Bull of the Year for 6000gns at the Event of the Year Sale. Granite left very saleable bulls, the first 3 sold privately at little over a year old before they got near a sale and his females were tremendous cows and in the background of most of the current herd. A daughter ‘Dainty N11’ was the Reserve Female of the Year 1997 and he is a past Sire of the Year and Sire of the Progeny Pair of the Year. We have started using Granite again by AI and a daughter ‘Pansy E9’ was second in her class at RUAS 2009 |
