In 2010/11 three exciting young heifers were introduced in an attempt to rejuvenate the Solitude Simmental herd. They are the first new females introduced to the herd in fifteen years and we have high hopes for them.

Sire: Dripsey Super King.

His heifers have sold at auction to a top of 9200gns.

His bulls have sold to a top of 11,000gns for the Perth Feb 09 Junior Champion, a 3/4 brother to Alexis.

Alexis was Second Reserve Overall Champion at the N.I. Simmental Club’s 40th Anniversary  Elite Sale in 2010 and was purchased for 5000gns. She is a tremendous dark red heifer with exceptional hindquarters and great width throughout combined with a lot of style and character. She is sired by Dripsey Super King, a Raceview King son and from the prolific breeding cow Ballingar Kim. Alexis’ dam Cleenagh Vikki is sired by Omorga Murray, a son of the great Cleenagh Daffodil. Murray has bred heifers to 12,000gns and sons to 16000gns.

Amouret was purchased at the Irish Premier Sale in Roscommon in November 2010 where she was forward as part of a draft of heifers offered from the Milton herd. She was purchased as the top priced lot of the draft at 4100. Her sire Banwy T-Rex was sold at Perth and he has had a fantastic show career being Champion at Balmoral in 2009 and Overall Irish Simmental of the Year 2009 and 2010. He has also proven himself as one of the leading sires in the South of Ireland with his sons selling to 10,400 and heifers to 6600 for a ten month old calf. Amouret’s dam Milton Hilary has bred daughters to 21,000 and class winners at Balmoral and Tullamore. A daughter was also the Reserve Overall Female of the Year in ROI. Amouret at 16 months scanned 100 for Eye Muscle Area and weighed 703kg. She was Simmental Champion at Saintfield Show 2011.

Banwy T-Rex

The herd’s greatest success was when Solitude Vanguard was Overall Champion at the February Perth Bull Sales in 1990. Vanguard went on to sell for 6200gns, the second highest price of the sale. There was a general consensus at the sale that had he been a paler coloured bull, which was favoured at the time, he would have made considerably more. Sons of him collected Championships at local club sales in N.I.

RACEVIEW BEAUTY ROYAL

Beauty Royale was purchased at the Raceview Production Sale for 6700. She was our first choice of the thirty five heifers presented at the sale where two full sisters sold for 6000 each. Her sire Raceview Nigel was sold to the Ashland Herd of Pat and Frank Kelly and was N.I. Male of the Year. He also bred two N.I. Female of the Year Champions. Her dam Raceview Royale Beauty is a tremendous cow and is a full sister to Raceview Merle Beauty dam of the 20,000 Irish Record holder Curaheen Tyson. They are sired by Raceview King sire of Omorga Samson sold for British record price of 22,000gns.

Dam: Royale Beauty.

Supreme Champion twice at Tullamore National finals. Sired by Raceview King
